The Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (ULAW) has achieved a historic milestone by becoming Vietnam’s first authorized institution for formal industrial property legal training. This accreditation establishes a standardized educational pathway for aspiring Intellectual Property Agents, reinforcing ULAW’s two decades of excellence in the field.
HO CHI MINH CITY – The Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (ULAW) has officially become the first educational institution in Vietnam authorized to conduct formal legal training in industrial property, marking a critical milestone in standardizing the nation’s intellectual property (IP) representation sector.
Following Decision No. 299/QD-SHTT issued by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam on June 22, ULAW is now the pioneering facility recognized to provide the prerequisite training necessary for issuing Industrial Property Agent practice cards. This landmark accreditation aligns with Circular No. 10/2026/TT-BKHCN, promulgated earlier this year by the Ministry of Science and Technology, cementing the university’s academic authority and educational quality.
📌 Building on Two Decades of Expertise
The official recognition serves as a testament to ULAW’s long-standing capacity in legal education. For over 20 years, the university has collaborated closely with the national Intellectual Property Office to cultivate a highly skilled legal workforce. Its historical track record includes:
- 2005–2014: Foundational training and coaching courses on intellectual property.
- 2015–2023: Intensive, specialized programs in intellectual property law.
To date, the institution has successfully trained nearly 1,200 practitioners, playing an instrumental role in supplying professional, high-tier talent to Vietnam’s growing industrial property market.
📌 Standardized Pathways for IP Agents
ULAW’s newly accredited program is specifically tailored to meet the rigorous, practical demands required for practicing Industrial Property Agents. Trainees are required to complete a comprehensive curriculum of mandatory modules and elective skill-based courses.
Upon successfully passing the final module assessments and graduation exams, students will be awarded graduation certificates corresponding to their distinct practice areas:
- Brand and Commercial Rights: Trademarks, geographical indications, trade names, anti-unfair competition, and trade secrets.
- Industrial Innovations: Patents, industrial designs, and layout designs.
Earning this certificate is a mandatory prerequisite for professionals. It formally qualifies candidates to sit for the national professional examination for industrial property agents or to be evaluated for the IP representation service practice certificate, in strict accordance with Vietnam’s current Intellectual Property Law.
