Vietnamese users spent nearly 300 million hours using generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the first six months of 2025, equivalent to about 1.6 million hours a day, according to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower. The surge reflects how AI tools are rapidly becoming part of everyday life, work, and study across Vietnam.

The report showed that users made 7.5 billion sessions on AI apps via iOS and Android platforms, averaging over 41 million sessions per day. Compared with 2024, AI usage in Vietnam has increased nearly eightfold, signaling what experts describe as the country’s “golden phase” of AI adoption.
In the first half of 2024, Vietnamese users spent only about 36.2 million hours on AI apps. The figure rose to 101 million hours in the second half of that year, before jumping to nearly 283 million hours in early 2025 — a growth rate that analysts call unprecedented.
Downloads have also doubled year-on-year. In the first six months of 2025, Vietnamese users downloaded more than 33.1 million generative AI applications, compared with 16.7 million in the latter half of 2024.
Among locally developed tools, AI Hay, a Vietnamese-made application, ranked third in downloads and second in monthly active users among AI apps in Vietnam, highlighting the growing potential of domestic tech products.
Sensor Tower data also indicated that users in Vietnam spent roughly US$7.49 million on AI apps in the first half of 2025 — the highest level ever recorded. However, no locally developed app has yet entered the global top 10 by revenue, as most are still prioritizing user growth over monetization.
Experts said the boom demonstrates that AI is no longer a passing trend but is shaping into a new digital habit among Vietnamese users, from students and office workers to creators and marketers.
However, the rapid adoption also raises concerns about data privacy, content accuracy, and AI ethics, as automated tools grow more powerful and pervasive. Observers say the key challenge for Vietnam is to balance innovation with responsible and transparent use.
Vietnam’s embrace of AI marks a new phase in its digital transformation, where artificial intelligence is becoming an essential companion in both work and daily life. Analysts say sustainable growth will require collaboration among policymakers, businesses, and communities to ensure AI benefits society as a whole.
